We recommend an annual exam for younger and healthier pets, and examinations every six months or even more often for geriatric pets or animals with chronic health problems.  At your pet's annual exam your pet's veterinarian will recommend appropriate blood testing for age, breed, lifestyle and will talk with you about the cost and benefit of these screening tests before they are performed.
